European Union
The European Union is an organization founded by the Treaty of Maastricht in 1993 on the foundations of the already in existance European Economic Community. The EU has established laws to permit the freedom of movement of people, goods, services and capital and has standardized the monetary unit used by members states wishing to use the Euro. Citizenship in the European Union is complimentary to national citizenship with the member countries and parliament is elected every five years by EU citizens.
